Our services & treatments

What we do

With a full understanding of your individual needs and requirements, and our experience in dealing with the various breeds and many mixed breeds as well as the objective of what is manageable for you on a day-to-day basis in mind, our goal in our approach to all the K9s we touch, especially those that also need extra special care, is one of compassion, patience and understanding. We get that each dog is as unique as its own personality and as such our methodology is geared and personalized for each and every dog.

Based on our knowledge of breed standards along with an understanding of the challenges of mixed breeds, especially the umpteen Doodles we groom, we tailor each grooming visit accordingly. That is how we approach each of our awesome K9 clients. With each dog cared for, handled and groomed by what it uniquely needs driven by its own personality.

We work one on one with each dog from start to finish. We don’t rush or take shortcuts. We hand-dry each dog. We do not use cage dryers. Each dog is handled with the utmost care as though they are our own. Treats, praises, pats and lots of reassurance are “de rigueur” as well as rest breaks given if needed so that each dog’s entire visit to the spa is always a positive one.

It is our promise to provide the best possible experience for all of our K9 clients, time and time again.

Puppy’s First Groom

This is a quick, up-to-1-hour treatment designed to introduce your puppy to the benefits of grooming and help them feel comfortable in the grooming environment, preparing them for future full grooming sessions. If your puppy doesn’t yet need a full groom or bath, but you’d like them to get used to the grooming process, feel free to bring them in for a visit! They can explore the smells, experience sitting on the grooming table, feel the brush, and get a gentle introduction to clippers. There’s absolutely no charge for a visit, and your puppy’s first nail trim is 100% on the house!

Fleas – Please note that although we can and do offer flea baths, we do not typically accept dogs with fleas unless it is for a firm appointment for a flea bath. Should your dog arrive with a flea infestation that is discovered after the groom has started, a flea supplement of $25 (minimum) will apply. This fee is intended to cover the extra time needed for the coat being treated with a special flea shampoo, as well as the Spa being cleaned and disinfected prior to the next client arriving for their appointment together with any towels used so they can be washed separately.

If your dog has fleas, if you are able, please treat them prior to visiting the Spa.

Skunk – Should your dog be brought to us after being skunked, a skunk supplement of $27.50 (minimum) will apply. This covers the coat being treated with the amount of product used to eliminate the odour and the Spa being cleansed of skunk odour. Any product used on your dog that is remaining will be given to you to take home to use. Skunk odour is pervasive and lingers for a long while. While we can fully bath your dog and help reduce the skunk smell, the smell can and will linger on for some time and when your dog gets wet, the smell of skunk will re-appear, albeit less prominently as time passes. You are most successful in treating a skunk attack on your dog at home when you do so immediately or as soon as possible after your dog has been skunked. Mild skunk odors in your home can be eliminated with proper ventilation, usually within 14 to 21 days.

** One thing to remember is that when your dog is skunked, even if you’re successful at treating your dog immediately, the smell will still appear to be evident, that’s because the odour is in your environment where the skunk has sprayed and importantly it’s also in your nostrils, so even if you’ve eliminated it, you’re still smelling it. The human nose is very sensitive to the pungent molecules in a skunk’s spray. As such, you may detect a lingering odor even after a thorough cleaning. Rest assured that it will dissipate and go away. The best thing you can do is to maintain airflow in your home. Open all of your windows and let as much sunlight in as possible to oxidize the odor and shorten its lifespan. Also, run the fan in your central heating or AC system to circulate the air. Place bowls of vinegar in each room for two or three days. Stronger odors, such as those that have seeped into clothing, furniture and pet fur, may and cannot be eliminated. If no immediate action is taken, untreated skunk smell can last for months or even years! However, if it has seeped into furniture or clothing unfortunately, it may not be able to be eliminated.

COSMETIC TEETH CLEANING

*slide the arrow to see before and after

Cosmetic Teeth Cleaning is offered by The Art of Dog Grooming Inc. where the comfort and well-being of your dog is their number one priority.

In our sanitized Teeth Cleaning Room and relaxed environment, Lisa from The Art of Dog Grooming, uses a holistic approach to provide a cosmetic teeth cleaning above the gum line using hand scalers. This is an extremely gentle procedure.

Lisa works one on one with each dog with each appointment taking approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on the amount of build up. By working alone with your dog, she finds they settle down and are much calmer.

Although this type of cleaning is a wonderful safe service it is not a medical procedure but rather cosmetic service.

Lisa is not a veterinarian and does not practice veterinarian medicine; she does not examine, diagnose, or cure any disease.

It is her guarantee that all instruments are well cared for, sharpened, and a new sterilized set of instruments is used on each dog. The sterilization procedure is the same as that used in dental offices throughout Ontario.

HOUSEKEEPING

At the K9 Pet Spa, our focus is on providing a safe and secure environment for your dog. For this reason, it is important that you share as much information with us about your dog as possible. This will help us during the grooming process to ensure the safety of both your pet and our team while your fur baby is in our care.

GROOMING APPOINTMENT Ps & Qs

No Shows, Cancelling, and Rescheduling – We totally get it; life happens, and sometimes you can’t keep your appointment. Personal emergencies, pet illness, and other unforeseen events are out of your control. However, please be mindful that when you cancel an appointment on short notice, we cannot always fill that time, and clients on the waiting list miss the opportunity to have their dog groomed sooner.

The following fees and terms may apply:

  • For cancellations with less than 48-hour notice, a charge equal to 50% of the reserved treatment amount will apply.
  • There are no fees applied for cancellations given with 48 hours or more notice or in cases of emergency – see Health & Well-being.
  • No shows or cancellations on the day of the appointment may be charged 100% of the appointment fee. A second cancellation without advance notice or repeated no-shows will require pre-payment of the full fee when booking the next appointment.

Rescheduling is always welcome, and we’ll try our best to fit you in as quickly as possible. Rescheduling on the day of the appointment will be treated as a cancellation.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment outside normal working hours, please text us at 519-572-9977 or leave us a voicemail at 519-954-5550, including your name, your dog’s name, the appointment date and time, and the time of your call.

Health & Well-being – If your dog is unwell (e.g., diarrhea, vomiting, or kennel cough), please do not bring them to the Spa for their comfort. We are happy to reschedule your appointment.

Please also note that dogs who are pregnant are not accepted for full grooming. “While You Wait” services may be performed as long as the dog can remain calm during the visit and can tolerate the environment in the Spa. Our motto here is safety first and foremost.

Late Arrival – Running late? It happens! Please try to arrive on time. If you’re more than 15 minutes late, fitting you in may not be possible, as this impacts the next client. We understand you may be delayed through no fault of your own, and if time allows, we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Elimination – No one likes accidents! Please make sure your dog has relieved themselves before arriving at the Spa. A full bladder or bowel can make grooming uncomfortable for your dog.

THE APPOINTMENT

Treatment Time – We’ll give you an estimated pick-up time when you drop off your dog. We’ll call or text you once they’re ready. Occasionally, unforeseen circumstances may require extra time, but we’ll let you know if this is the case.

Behavior – For the safety of both your dog and our team, we reserve the right to refuse service if we observe aggressive behavior that may pose a danger. If the grooming has started and we need to stop, a charge of 50% of the treatment fee will apply.

Burrs, Mats, Tangles & Knots – If your dog’s coat has excessive burrs or severe matting that cannot be brushed out without causing stress or pain, we may need to clip the area short. We will seek your consent prior to proceeding. To prevent this in the future, we can discuss a tailored maintenance program for your dog. Under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act, 2019, it is our duty to ensure your dog’s well-being while in our care.

Pricing – Prices are subject to change without prior notice. Prices quoted are guidelines; the exact cost will be determined during assessment. Any additional charges will apply if your dog has fleas, requires special treatment, or needs extra assistance. We’ll inform you if adjustments are needed during their visit.

FleasUnless there is a specific appointment made to treat a dog’s flea infestation, we do not accept dogs with fleas. If a flea infestation is discovered during grooming, a $25 (minimum) supplement will apply for a flea treatment. This covers additional time, special shampoo, separate towel washing, and Spa sanitation.

Skunk – A skunk supplement of $27.50 (minimum) applies when a skunk treatment is required. This includes treatment with an odor-eliminating product. Note that while we can reduce the skunk smell, it may reappear slightly when your dog gets wet. Proper ventilation usually helps mild odors dissipate within 14 to 21 days.

Your Data – We keep detailed records of all dogs, treatments, and their owner’s information. All data is kept confidential and secure and is not shared with any third parties.

Insurance – The K9 Pet Spa is fully insured.

Satisfaction Guarantee – If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with the service, please let us know so we can address any issues. We’re human, and sometimes things are missed. We cannot correct any oversight if you don’t let us know.

Payment – Payment is due upon completion of service. We accept Visa, Mastercard, debit cards, e-transfer, and cash.
